Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent Review

Camping is an adventurous activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages but there are some factors that can create problems for new campers. An extreme temperature and wet-weather can be some of those problems. It is a camping tent which can be the best solution to such problems.

A camping tent proves to be perfect for three seasons but it is the best companion in summer. In summer, due to high temperature you can experience sweat; at that time a camping tent provides you shelter. On a rainy day, you will not worry about being wet.

A camping tent is an obligatory accessory which should be taken with you while on camping. It offers a great shelter and protection to the camper at nights under the sky.

It is easy to choose a camping tent if you know its features and specifications. Various factors like capacity of the tent, security features, weight, storage space, etc. should be considered while buying a tent.

Here, we have created a brief review of Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent.

Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent Overview:

The Wenzel Klondike has a dimension of 16 feet by 11 feet. The Klondike allows eight people to sleep in it; five persons can sleep in its 98 square feet of interior space, in the 60 square foot screen room three more can sleep with its zip up walls. It offers a head room of 6.5 feet which allows you to stand up straight inside the tent.

The screen room which is attached to the tent can also be used as a sun shelter, a gear room, a picnic room, or a room just to relax in. Following is the detailed description of Wenzel 8 Person Klondike Tent:

Ventilation:

The Klondike tent has a large surface area of mesh fabric which allows for more air to circulate throughout the tent. This circulation of air provides a great amount of ventilation. Most of the ventilation is due to the front awning whose walls are mostly mesh. You can leave the door of the living space open for further ventilation in the tent’s interior. Less ventilation is a major drawback with most large tents, but the Klondike has this unique feature.

Screen room:

You can see a mesh everywhere around and above in the screen room. It also consists of panels so that you can zip it completely in the case of rain. Thus the interior of the tent is protected. The screen room has a floor just like in the main room. It is considered as a true separate room having all the functionality same as in the main room. The ceiling of this room is much lower so you cannot stand up there. The floor area of this room is 60 square feet (5.6m²). You can fit any queen-size camping bed here easily.

External door:

The tent is composed of a single external door. This is not so great, as there is the same door for entrance and exit. The door is equipped with an inverted T-shaped zipper that is protected by a storm flap.

Rear mesh vent:

The existence of a rear mesh vent in the Klondike is one of the most interesting features. This vent has an awning that can be left open to form a passage for air. Even during rainstorms, you can open the vent for having great ventilation throughout the tent.

Large front awning:

Most of the large tents have a large live in area but the Klondike is unique in its way by having a large awning area that gives it an appearance of being larger than it is. The awning area can also occupy two adults providing more room.

Poles:

Three poles of this tent are made of high-quality fiberglass and 6 poles made of premium quality metal are for the vertical support. You will not lose any piece as the poles are shock-corded. While transporting the fiberglass poles, you need to take care of them a little bit.

Accessory pockets:

There are a few small accessory pockets in the tent that are used for the purpose of storage. You can put your small important items in them. These are easy to reach storage pockets which are sewn well into the walls of the tent.

Spacious interior:

The Klondike boasts enough space as it has a spacious interior. The space is enough for a queen-size air mattress. Also there is plenty of live-able space around it. The headroom is enough having a peak height of 6.5 feet.

Usage:

The tent can be used with or without the rain fly. If the weather seems to be pleasant and a little bit windy, you can enjoy it by removing the rain fly as the ceiling is completely meshed allowing a great amount of ventilation. When it is raining, you can use the rain fly and get protected from it.

Inside structure:

The rooms are pleasant, but I miss some storage elements. There are a couple of very small pockets and this is all. I would expect more in such a big space. The inside door is a complete circle with a zipper that goes all the way around, but it is not removable. You can store it in a dedicated pocket next to it on the wall. At the highest point in the main room, you have a ring for lantern attachment.

Setup:

This is a good feature that the setup is really easy. This tent can be set up in just 20 minutes by just one person. You just need to spread the tent on the floor all around and stake it. Then by adding the fiberglass poles in the sleeves, add 4 vertical poles for the main room and 2 poles for the screen room.

Fabric:

The floor of the tent is made from polyethylene, which is a typical material for family camping tents. The ceiling of the tent is completely a mesh allowing most of the air to circulate throughout the tent. The upper portion is polyester coated with polyurethane. The fly is made from waterproof material making the tent water-resistant.
